In the last decade, social media has nearly taken over the world of journalism and news. With just one post on a twitter or one picture on Instagram, news can be spread within a matter of minutes.

People today rely so much on their social media pages for new information whereas ten years ago, people would focus on getting news solely from news stations or news papers.

According to Anthony Adornato, “Social Media is a modern-day tip line. It has become a powerful tool to find stories in your community. Monitoring social media platforms is a way to listen to the public, to put your finger on the pulse of what people are talking about.”

However, none of this would be possible without the technology that we have available to us today. Think about your daily routine. The first thing that most people do is grab their phones and scroll through social media pages in order to be caught up with what is happening on that day.

I personally rely on technology everyday. I never leave the house with out my phone in my hand and my smart watch on my wrist. I use my laptop and Ipad on a daily basis for school as well as other things.

Social media has made it so easy to get updates on what is going on around you. From politics, fashion trends, to sports updates, technology and social media has made it a breeze to stay up to date.

This this tweet From Adam Schefter is a good example of showing how social media can be used to spread news in an affective way. Although, it is just a simple tweet, it is clear, to the point, and informative.

I am excited to see how social media and technology advancements continue to shape the world of journalism and news.
